They say make hay while the sun is shining.
I’m so excited about the potential of ASAP Homeless Services. We are poised for tremendous growth and piercing the ceiling to move up to the next level of impact in our community. I believe this is true because of the capacity-building activities we are engaged in this summer. Through a Compassion Florida - Human Capital Mini-Grant awarded to the organization by The Volunteer Florida Foundation, several board and staff members of ASAP are able to participate in 40 hours of fund development training. In addition, we will receive upgrades to IT system so that we will be more efficient in organizing our fund development activities. So, through this grant, we are making hay.
They also say it’s darkest before the dawn.
Right now, we’re going through challenging times, with less than one month’s operating expenses in the bank. Like many other non-profits in Florida, the level of individual donations coming into ASAP is down. We all share concerns about rising costs for fuel and food, and decreasing home values. Yet, the financial strain we feel pales in comparison to the challenges homeless families face. So, even if all you can send is $25, it will help make a difference in the lives of these families who are trying to better themselves. And your continued support during these summer months will enable us to keep the lights on until the dawn comes.
ASAP is living proof that we can do something about homelessness in St. Petersburg and beyond. Since 1986, ASAP Homeless Services has provided housing, supportive services and basic necessities to homeless individuals and families in St. Petersburg and Pinellas County. ASAP’s aim is to guide individuals toward the achievement of self-sufficiency and independent living. So please take a moment to share this newsletter with a friend, neighbor or co-worker. Invite them to visit us and join in with the hundreds of people who help make a difference with their time and donations.
Making hay… waiting for a new dawn… we can do it… with your support, now more than ever.
Sincerely,
Sincerely,
Karen Butler
Executive Director
As you know, the City of Saint Petersburg and Pinellas County, our largest public supporters, have cut funding in 2008 for social service agencies like ASAP. We are thankful for the support we receive from the public, but it does not pay all of our expenses. We make ends meet through the thoughtful, generous donations of people like you. And the person who makes it all work is our executive director, Karen Butler.
Karen is not only an able administratorshe is also is a tireless fundraiser. In recognition of her valuable work for the homeless citizens of our City and County, the Pinellas County Coalition for the Homeless has awarded Karen its 2008 Community Service and Achievement Award. We on the board of directors are honored to work with her and extend our congratulations to Karen.
You are a friend of ASAP when you respond to ASAP’s campaign request to rebuild our operating reserve; when you attend Holiday Hope, our annual fundraiser; when you join our Adopt-A-Room program; and when you donate any goods and services. If you would like more information about ASAP’s mission and services and how you can help ASAP through charitable giving, call Karen Butler at 727-823-5665.
Thank you, dear friend.
Sincerely,
Sondra Greenfield
President, Board of Directors
